Thanks to YOU, it’s been a great year!

The Crest - Cultivating Connection to Farm, Forest, Water and Each Other

As we move into the Fall Fundraising Flurry, when you’re probably already getting deluged with invitations and requests, we’re starting the season gently, with this simple request:

Nature Day Camp students

Thanks to you, it’s been a great year! As you may have heard, after returning home to Portland in August, 6-year-old Cleo stepped on a bee and got stung for the first time. Her mom, trying to make light of a difficult moment, said: “Welcome to the bee sting club!” Little Cleo, through tears, replied, “I don’t want to be part of the bee sting club, but I’m glad there are so many pollinators out there!”

Seriously, though, 210 spots at Nature Day Camp were filled this year.  Another 1,000 children visited on school field trips — combined, that’s over 4% of the children in Jackson County!  Hats off to Liz Bianco and the Education folk!

Our first Winter Trails discovery walk in the late snow highlighted footprints of rabbits, squirrels, birds, and more.

Collaborating with Pollinator Project Rogue Valley’s Ethan Robison and OSU lepidopterist Dana Ross, at MOTH NIGHT, an intrepid group of nighttime explorers observed 44 species of moths at Willow-Witt Ranch in July (subsequent research has determined there are probably 1,000 species of moths in the Siskiyou-Crest region, and only 100 of them have been identified to date!).

Last month, with leadership from Dr. Michael Parker and Friends of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument’s Executive Director Daniel Collay, we restored a submerged turtle raft and built a new one, doubling the basking capacity of the region’s highest-altitude breeding population of Western Pond Turtles.

Any amount you can give or pledge to make next year the best year ever will be gratefully received!

  • $250 funds half the Camp tuition for a needy family.
  • $500 a full scholarship.
  • $2,500 provides bus transportation for a week of camp
  • $25,000 provides scholarships for 50 kiddos!

Here’s our dream for next year – a Garden of Gifts:

dream garden of gifts to support The Crest's mission

With gratitude!

The Crest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

The Crest nonprofit organization relies on donations to support youth programs and give community groups the chance to experience the wonders of nature to learn about and feel a connection to the natural world. Our volunteer opportunities are a great chance to get outside, connect with others and learn more about your local ecosystem. Please consider contributing to this natural legacy by making a tax-deductible donation.
