The Crest at Willow-Witt

Star Party

Saturday, October 26th, 6PM-9PM

Come join us up at Willow-Witt Ranch on Saturday, October 26th at 6 PM for an educational and fun evening of exploring the night sky. Local astronomy group Skywatchers and SOU Astronomy Student Eleanor will show us the wonders of the night sky with their telescopes. Please also feel free to bring your own telescopes and binoculars.

Enjoy youth education and community connections as we observe the moon, planets, constellations and meteors!

Nights are chilly up at the ranch, so be sure to dress warmly.

Snacks will be provided, so we’d love it if you would RSVP to help us with planning by clicking the link below.

Please note no dogs allowed at Willow-Witt Ranch.

This is a free event so please come even if you don’t RSVP.

Our New Community Engagement Coordinator!

Maddi Ross, Community Engagement Coordinator

Welcome Madi Ross

She will be assisting us with public outreach and getting schools connected with our field trip and outdoor school opportunities. You’ll see Madi tabling for us at lots of community events, so come say hi!

Madi grew up in Hillsboro, OR, and holds a degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Southern Oregon University, where she also earned a minor in Education and a certificate in Environmental Communications. With a deep passion for environmental education, community engagement, and protection of natural spaces, she is excited to spend her career in fostering connections between people and the natural world.

Madi has worked in various roles involving environmental outreach. She served as an intern with Jackson Bottom Wetlands in Hillsboro, contributing to nature programs and developing successful outdoor educational activities. During her time at Southern Oregon University, she worked as the Student Director of the Outdoor Program to create inclusive outdoor experiences and led adventure trips in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

When she’s not working, Madi spends most of her time outside, hiking, camping, and exploring with friends. She also enjoys traveling to new places, adventuring with family, and crocheting hats for all her close friends.

Thanks to funding through the Measure 99 Outdoor School Initiative The Crest has built heated, covered ADA-accessible wall tents at the gorgeous Willow-Witt Ranch that can hold up to 60 campers. The rental of the off-grid campground includes the use of a lovely, updated outdoor kitchen, a tent camping area, a bathhouse. Gender neutral bathrooms and a nurse’s station are being built, estimated to be completed by 2025.

We would love to share this wonderful resource with other organizations/groups who are looking for a safe, inclusive, wilderness site to host camps and events.

Rental costs are based on a sliding scale, please contact us directly for more information.

Suzanne Willow talks to a group of students visiting The Crest

The Crest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

The Crest nonprofit organization relies on donations to support youth programs and give community groups the chance to experience the wonders of nature to learn about and feel a connection to the natural world. Our volunteer opportunities are a great chance to get outside, connect with others and learn more about your local ecosystem. Please consider contributing to this natural legacy by making a tax-deductible donation.
